Balvant Hirpara.

Promoter - Omkar Machine Tools
Industrialist - Manufacturer - Mentor
Rajkot - Gujarat - India
On a mission
“Hold the frame to spec. Hold the commissioning to date. Hold the customer for a decade.”

Balvant Hirpara is the Promoter & Director of Omkar Machine Tools Pvt. Ltd. - a Rajkot-Gondal manufacturer of hydraulic press machines and sheet-metal forming equipment. A first-generation, self-made entrepreneur based in Rajkot, Gujarat, he has built the company from a single plant on NH-27 at Ribda, Gondal into an ISO 9001:2015 certified machine-tool operation that supplies the automobile, sheet-metal fabrication, machine-tool, rubber moulding and engineering industries across India - with select export reach.

The Founder - First-Generation, Self-Made

Balvant's entrepreneurial story is self-made. A first-generation businessman with no inherited enterprise behind him, he chose hydraulic presses, chose Rajkot, and chose the long path of building a category-defining engineering firm. Omkar Machine Tools, established in 2011, was built on a single conviction: that an Indian machine-tool builder can be a globally trusted source of hydraulic presses when the engineering discipline - frame fabrication, hydraulics quality, commissioning rigour - is non-negotiable.

The category was unforgiving. Hydraulic presses sell on tonnage, ram parallelism, stroke control and how the machine behaves under continuous shift duty - not on price alone. Omkar chose to lead with consistency. Frames were designed for stable ram travel, hydraulic packs were specified to international quality standards, and the customers Balvant chose to court were those who would specify hard and stay long.

The Operator

Day-to-day, Balvant runs Omkar Machine Tools as a hands-on promoter. The remit covers design, fabrication, machining, hydraulics, quality and customer commissioning - and the workforce of fabricators, machinists, hydraulics technicians and test-bay engineers that keep the plant running on a delivered-and-commissioned metronome. He works close to the floor - close to the press bay, close to the test stand, close to the customers whose production schedules turn on a delivered, commissioned, running press.

The operating discipline shows up in how the business is structured: quality before quantity, ISO 9001:2015 by design, real customer trust as the moat. Machine-tool building is an unforgiving category; the only durable differentiator is execution. That has been the starting philosophy and remains the operating one.

The Investor

Beyond the operating role, Balvant is an active capital allocator across the plant's expansion and adjacent ventures inside the Rajkot-Gondal engineering cluster. The bias is unambiguous: capital placed in manufacturing capability compounds more reliably than capital placed anywhere else for a first-generation Indian industrialist. Working capital flows through the plant; capacity expansions are funded from internal accruals; debt is used sparingly and only against assets that generate cash.

Selectively, Balvant supports other operators in the cluster - younger founders setting up engineering units, machining vendors, fabrication shops, hydraulics specialists - where his operating knowledge adds real value and the relationship strengthens the wider Saurashtra ecosystem. The Mentor - For First-Generation Founders

Balvant engages actively with younger founders in engineering, machine tools, hydraulics, contract manufacturing and family-run manufacturing - across the Rajkot, Gondal, Jamnagar, Morbi and wider Saurashtra industrial cluster. As a first-generation founder who built Omkar from the ground up, he is candid about what the work actually takes.

The conversations are direct. Founders reach out for a view on hydraulic press design and frame fabrication, how to configure a test bay and commissioning protocol, how to staff a quality function for a first-time export customer, how to win the first automobile-component customer, how to navigate ISO 9001:2015 audit and certification, or how to structure a family-run engineering firm for the next generation. He engages personally - the door stays open.

The Product Portfolio

Omkar Machine Tools' product portfolio spans:

  • C-Type Hydraulic Presses - 3 to 300 tonne capacity, hand and power-operated.
  • H-Type Hydraulic Presses - 5 to 500 tonne capacity, hand and power-operated.
  • Four-Pillar Hydraulic Presses - stable platen alignment for moulding and stamping.
  • Fixed-Frame Hydraulic Presses - 5 to 500 tonne capacity, structural press work.
  • Deep-Drawing Hydraulic Presses - 40 to 800 tonne capacity, deep-formed parts.
  • Scrap Baling Hydraulic Presses - for recycling and scrap processing.
  • Rubber Moulding Machines - moulding and curing presses.
  • Hydraulic Shearing Machines - sheet-metal cutting.
  • Hydraulic Press Brakes - sheet-metal bending and forming.

The customer base spans automobile-component manufacturers, sheet-metal fabricators, machine-tool builders, deep-drawing job shops, rubber moulders, scrap recyclers, agricultural-equipment makers and general engineering firms across India, with growing export reach. Vision

A reliable Indian machine-tool builder in the global arena, built quietly from Rajkot.

The goal is plain - be one of the most admired Indian hydraulic press manufacturers globally, while protecting the basics that the engineering industry was built on: design quality, fabrication consistency, hydraulics reliability, on-time commissioning and customer specifications that hold up over decades.

Every machine is a small step in that direction. Every customer is one more fabrication shop, automobile-component vendor or engineering plant that trusts Indian machine tools because it has watched ours hold up shift after shift. Compound that across years, and an Indian press builder can quietly become the reliable supplier the world's metal-forming industry needs more of.

Operating Principles

The way Balvant runs Omkar Machine Tools is anchored in six principles - the standards he will not compromise on, even as the business scales:

  1. Quality before quantity - Frame, hydraulics, controls, commissioning - non-negotiables. A press outlives its purchase order on the customer's shop floor; the standard has to match the parts the press will produce for the next decade.
  2. ISO 9001:2015 by design - International quality standards are built into how the plant runs daily - not retro-fitted before a customer audit. Inspection happens at the fab bay, at the machining centre, at the hydraulics test stand, and at final commissioning.
  3. Stay on the shop floor - Decisions made close to the fabrication, machining, hydraulics and test bays - and to the customer's specification sheet. Not from a glass tower.
  4. The long horizon - Build a business that compounds for decades, not a single export tender. Time horizons measured in customer reorder cycles, not quarters.
  5. Cash before credit - Capacity expansions funded from internal accruals. Receivables managed tighter than payables. The plant grows from what it earns - and never on what it borrows beyond its means.
  6. Open door for builders - Time given freely to younger founders building in engineering, machine tools, hydraulics and disciplined family enterprises. The Rajkot ecosystem rises together - and Indian engineering is stronger when first-generation operators back the next ones.
